About

We hope that our Club will be a powerful voice of advocacy for General Aviation within our community, and our Members will be very important in making that happen. The club is, in essence, a form of cooperative and differs from most FBOs and formal flight schools in that it relies heavily on mutual goodwill between owners and members. All club Members and Owners are aviation enthusiasts and dialogue between Members and the Owner Members is both welcomed and encouraged. Stuart Flying Club maintains its aircraft to the highest standards to comply with the applicable FAA regulations.

SFC Documents, Applications, Agreements, Forms, etc. can be found on the Resources Page.

Membership Types and Information about how to join can be found on the Membership page.

Available information about SFC Aircraft can be found on the Fleet Page.

Mission Statement

The Mission of the Stuart Flying Club is to provide excellent quality aircraft and maintenance for its Members, to spread awareness about the importance of General Aviation, to be a voice of advocacy for the  Aviation Industry, and to create opportunities for positive impact within our community.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is your club currently accepting new members?

Yes, we are! Just head over to the Membership page for details on how to join.

Is the Stuart Flying Club accepting any new aircraft leasebacks?

At the moment we are open to meeting with aircraft owners and discussing future leasebacks, but our current Club Roster can only support one aircraft, and we already have a second aircraft lined up for when we expand that far. If you'd like to offer your aircraft for leaseback after future expansion please email us at stuartflyingclub@gmail.com.

Can I rent planes from the Stuart Flying Club?

Our Flying Members who have completed their checkout and are current/meet all FAA legal requirements to act as PIC are able to rent club aircraft. Club aircraft are not available to non-members except for as guests of a Flying Member.

Is the Stuart Flying Club a Flight School?

Flight Training/Flight Instruction is allowed with the Stuart Flying Club as it is realistically a necessity of a Flying Club in order for the Club to be able to operate. Flight Training/Flight Instruction can only occur when both the CFI and the SP are Flying Members, unless the President has approved an exemption (this is for things like the EAA's Young Eagle's Events).

Are there  any job openings in the Stuart Flying Club for CFI's?

As a Flying Club not a Flight School, the Stuart Flying Club does not hire or have anyone on payroll. Flight Training is allowed, but both the Student and Instructor must be club members.

Are you guys hiring?

We do not hire, nor do we have anyone on payroll, but we do have officers that are members of the Club who volunteer to help out with Club Operations. Contact the Club President for available Officer openings/positions/requirements.

How many hours per month do I get with my membership?

The $125 Monthly Dues do not include any Flight Hours. We aim to average ~10 Members per aircraft, and the monthly membership pays for that share of the Annual Insurance, Tie Down, Aircraft Detailing, Legal Fees, and GPS Database Updates. That is why the hourly price is able to be more affordable.

What does the "Dry Tach" next to the price of your Aircraft mean?

Dry means that Fuel is not included in the price, this is because our Members will most likely refuel elsewhere (especially because many club flights are cross countries), and top off the aircraft at KSUA at the conclusion of each flight. This actually rewards Pilots who fly smarter, because wet prices have to assume that planes will be flown at the top of the gph scale and that the gas will be the highest price per gallon.

Tach means that members are charged off of the tachometer not the hobbs meter. This helps the members save money, because they don't have to pay as much for the time that they are taxiing, holding short, or even at idle power in the descent/landing. On average, 1.0 on the hobbs is 0.8 on the tach. We do still track hobbs times though so members can log the larger number in their logbooks.

Can members fly to the Bahamas in club planes?

Short answer? Yes, but not yet. We're working on it, but one good note about that is that KSUA is an international airport and does have customs.

Does the Stuart Flying Club allow Members to take the aircraft outside of Florida?

Yes we do. Please refer to the resources page where the SOPM and F Membership Agreement are located for more information.

Are members allowed to keep the Club planes out overnight?

Yes, however we do require that for each night the plane is taken the Member puts 4hrs on the tach for that aircraft. If the airplane has already been booked by a different member though the earlier booking takes priority.

Can my 12 year old join and do you have a youth membership?

If you are wanting your child to join as a Flying Member and start taking Flight Lessons, then yes they can join. However, for Social Memberships we would like to direct you to EAA.692 or invite you to take advantage of our Family Discount for Social Memberships, where part of the benefits are that you as the Parent become a Social Member and then you can bring your child to most SFC events (Board Meetings are for Members, Prospective Members, and SO's/Partners only please, 18+ unless they're a flying member, but your child doesn't want to come to those anyways I can assure you. They are boring.)

Are there any membership discounts available?

Yes there are! Perhaps one of the best currently available is the Annual Discount. Social Membership is $250 for the year, and Flying Memberships paid annually are $1,530 for the first year (10% off the Deposit + 10% off the Monthly Dues). Contact us for details about any other discounts available.

Do members get a discount for aircraft rentals?

Members do not get a discount off aircraft rental rates, as the aircraft are only available to members. We're planning some competitions where members can earn discounts off their membership by completing safety courses/additional training for proficiency though!

What do the Membership dues pay for?

The membership pays for that share of the Annual Insurance, Tie Down, Aircraft Detailing, Legal Fees, and GPS Database Updates

Are planes that old really safe to fly?

Very much so. The average age of an Aircraft worldwide is between 45 and 55 years old. General Aviation is above that and Commercial/Airlines are below. Aircraft are inspected before every flight and undergo vigorous maintenance/inspections at least once a year (the annual inspection essentially involves taking the plane apart, inspecting each piece, and putting it back together).
